Other eating options, if you would like to make coming to the exhibition a full day trip are 1) Caffe Jam at East Gosford on the corner of Victoria and Althorp - because every time we walk past it is full of customers 2) The Latitude Thirty Three restaurant at the Gosford Sailing Club 3) The Star Buffet at Central Coast Leagues Club.
It is now only a little over 3 weeks before my exhibition begins on 21 August. Here is the flyer I designed for it: This is what Gosford Regional Gallery looks like from the outside. The left hand path takes you to the main gallery, and the right hand path takes you to The Community Gallery. Here's a close up of the exterior of The Community Gallery, where my exhibition will be: Below is the interior of the main gallery. Through the glass sliding doors are the two major exhibitions that will be on show at the same time as mine. The one on the left has installation art from emerging artists. The one on the right has the work of Peter Smeeth which contains extraordinarily good portraits of famous modern Australians, mostly done in oils. The open area is known as the Foyer Gallery and you can just make out the photographs on the facing wall and the pastels on the right hand wall. The Gosford Gallery has a cafe / brasserie, which has options to sit outside or inside. Mains are mostly in the $15-$25 bracket. But if you just want an ice cream, that's possible too. Gosford Regional Gallery is well prepared if you would like to bring children or grandchildren with you. On the table inside the main gallery are some children's activities, which include colouring-in, and just outside there some interactive wall hangings to play with. If that isn't enough, then you can take the short Friendship Walk to see the water's edge, or play in the nearby playground. Both are visible from the southern car park. If you haven't been to the Gosford Regional Gallery before, then a stroll through the Japanese Gardens is a must. There are plenty of places to sit and linger. If you ask, the Gallery Shop might be able to sell you some fish food to feed the koi with - although in winter time they tend to restrict the days they sell it. The ducks are also rather partial to the fish food. If you are able to come to the exhibition that will be wonderful. Hopefully I will get some photographs taken during the exhibition and posted on these blog pages afterwards.

The Central Coast Art Society Winter Exhibition began this afternoon at Gosford Regional Gallery. It will run until 29 July 2015, and as usual there is a great variety of both subject matter and art medium. 'Whimsy' was the work I entered, and here's how it came to be: It began with a sketch in the visual diary. (The scan is a bit murky because some of the page underneath it showed through.) Then I drew it on A4 watercolour paper, and inked it. From there I started adding colour with watercolour paint At this point the cow changes colour, and the forest takes shape. About here I get feedback from my Mum and start making it look a bit less flat. I was already going to grade the greens to add depth. Now to take the masking tape off and scan it. But it needs flattening. Then the hard part of choosing the most appropriate frame. The right frame makes a big difference. And here it is at the Exhibition, although it might be in a different place by now. Fitting all the artwork onto the walls, and bringing out the best of them is an intricate jigsaw puzzle, and the Art Society members put a lot of time and effort into it. I plan on playing with the scanned image in Photoshop, and adding a background and some other stuff before making the final image into a greeting card.
That's me holding my certificate for Third Place in the CYA Conference competition for under 18s, for Illustration.
It was my first time at the Conference, but the third time I have received a certificate in the Hatchling Illustration category. My thanks to Katrina Lehman of Penguin Books (pictured) who was the judge for the category,to Peter Allert who took the official Conference photographs and to all the volunteer judges and conference organisers. This weekend the annual Gosford Show was held. Part of the Show is an Art Exhibition run by the Central Coast Art Society. It was dreadful weather for the Show, with lots of rain. Of the annual Art Society exhibitions, this is the only one that awards prizes in various categories. All of the CCAS exhibitions have a People's Choice Award. My entry in 'Category 3 - Works on Paper' was entitled 'Steampunk Castle'. It was developed using Ink and watercolour on A3 watercolour paper. 2015 is my 5th consecutive year entering the Gosford Show exhibition. Last night one of the Exhibition organizers rang with unexpectedly good news. The picture had sold, to a couple with young children who were thrilled with it. Not only that, the picture had received a Highly Commended Award in its category, and a few People's Choice Votes.
Both the sale and the award are firsts for me at this annual exhibition. Encouragement like that doesn't come along everyday, and even though it is highly subjective, it is still very gratefully received. |
